EUA is highly dependent on foreign workers, yet their visa regulations remain some of the most controversial in the World.

The formation of workers unions is strictly forbidden and very often, passports are in fact confiscated upon arrival.

Though in the summer months Western tourist are advised not to stay outside during the day for more then 5 minutes, the labourers usually work 14 hour shifts in temperature which rise as far as 50C.

Every evening, the hundreds of thousands of young men who build the city of Dubai are driven back to the desert where they sleep in make shift camps which are a far cry from any level of desency.

This are some pictures taken outside one such camp, which of course are of limits to photographers.
