Oman Fishing Industry
Oman has a long coast line which is very well suited for fish farming and in fact this industry is one of the few success stories in the local economic development. Due to this, in recent years the Government has decided to give more importance to this economic sector making the development of aquaculture an issue of national priority. The aim is to boost fisheries production from the present roughly 200,000 tonnes per year to around 480,000 tonnes by 2020, as well as to generate additional jobs during this period. These pictures were taken at a small private sardines processing plant, where fish, in this case, sardines are left to dry in the sun for days before being taken to another location for further processing and packaging.
