SinoParisians
Every year in Paris as the winter nears to its end the Chinese New Year is celebrated with a large pompous parade which traverses the city from the Place d’ Italie in the 10th arrondssemente to Hotel de Ville in Paris’s 4th arrondissment.
While this event and its preparations are taken very seriously by the Chinese community living in France, in recent years it has also been growing in popularity with other Parisians as well as the many tourists who flock to this colorful and exotic event.
While the sight of the intricate Chinese costumes and beautiful masks parading down the wide Parisian avenues and boulevards is certainly visually stunning, this event is also deeply fascinating because it shines light on a whole new aspect of globalization and multiculturalism.
Further more, it is enlightening because it illustrates the ever growing presence and power of the Chinese Diaspora in the World. The portraits of these new Sino Parisians is certainly just a small portion of what the future holds in store as with the further empowerment of China its immigrant communities are likely to not only show the World a new and coming face of the China but also to contribute to the ever changing demographics in Europe and wider.
